Vacation: for lazy people or for successful people?

Of course, it is impossible to say for sure that if you go on vacation, then you are lazy or vice versa, if you do not go on vacation, then you are a successful person.

Each of us has friends who do not take a vacation for a very long amount of time, or you often do it yourself. The reasons for not going on vacation may be different:

- the desire to earn more;

- fear that during the vacation you will lose your position in the company;

- don't want to waste time sitting at home when you can work and earn;

- lack of money for the trip.

Of course, all this is understandable and even appreciated in many countries of the world. Japan, China and America are the countries of real workaholics who have not taken a vacation for years. It's normal to see a sleeping employee on the Japanese subway. In this country, the working day is from 11 to 16 hours a day. They have no time to rest. The competition among workers in the country is very huge.

Refusal of vacation – world practice

In the USA, for example, conditions are also very tough. There, by law, paid leave is 9 days a year. If an employee wants to get more vacation days, he needs to work in the company for at least 4 years.

Yes, you can take an additional vacation at your own expense, but Americans are in no hurry to do this. It's too expensive.

Such workaholism is quite understandable: high salaries, high unemployment and high expectations from the employer. A bunch of competitors with excellent education expect that another employee of the company will free up their workplace for them. Therefore, a person works for years without a vacation.

In recent years, Russia has also been catching up with this standard. Now we have such workaholics who do not leave the office and work without a vacation.

Refusal of vacation and professional burnout syndrome

The desire to work is encouraged everywhere. Even children are brought up on this principle from the very cradle. And, of course, it is beneficial for large and small companies whose activities are focused on profit growth.

"Work hard and you will be happy!" – this motto can be hung at the entrance to many companies.

Think about how a person who has not been on vacation for a long time feels over time - he literally lives his life at work. Yes, a person begins to suffer from professional burnout syndrome.

What will happen if you don't go on vacation

Professional burnout is a condition when a person does not have the strength to perform any simple duties. Every morning he forcibly pulls himself out of bed and barely gets to work. And life becomes not a joy for him, and work is not a joy, and in general everything is not a joy, and he barely has enough strength for some kind of existence.

Depression in such workers is a common condition. Irritability, tearfulness, frequent mood changes and aggression appear.

When a person is in this state for a long time, any psychosomatic diseases are gradually added to his emotional emptiness. A person begins to feel that he is getting sick, that he has a headache, heartache, shortness of breath, digestive problems, allergies. At this point, the body runs out of all resources to deal with external and internal stimuli.

Any severe stress can lead a person with professional burnout syndrome to serious health problems or mental problems. This is, of course, in the worst case scenario. But this can happen if you don't go on vacation for years.

In order not to face professional burnout at least once a year, it is necessary to go on vacation. And neither divide your vacation into pieces for several days. 1-2 weeks in a row of a full-fledged vacation are simply necessary for a person, they will restore the psyche, physical health, allow you to relax and relieve the stress that you get at work, and you will feel the taste of life again and return to work with renewed vigor.

Going on vacation, it is not necessary to go somewhere abroad or buy vouchers to lie in a hotel in the sun. It's enough just to change the situation - take a walk in the park, take a walk on the embankment, get some fresh air and just spend time with your family without thinking about work.

If you have a habit of refusing a vacation, then the consequences will not take long to wait. If you don't go on vacation, you get a set of psychosomatic diseases and depression. It is clear that we all work in order to have money for a living, but if we deny ourselves a vacation and constantly get sick from it, then the whole point of such work disappears. In addition, on vacation you can make useful acquaintances that will help you in the professional field.
